I got your picture hanging on the wall

Best news I've heard in a while -- via blogging guitarist Mike Bagetta -- Jeff Wall is coming to MoMA. Well, actually, I have no idea if the dude himself will make the trip, but his thoroughly awesome oversize lightbox photographs will. I'm pretty sure my fellow Pulseketeers are sick of hearing me talk up Jeff Wall by now, but he's pretty much my favorite photographer ever, and my last two Pulse compositions have been based on his work (this one and this one, for those keeping track). I've seen individual Wall pieces at the Tate Modern and other galleries, and I've got a book of his stuff, but Marvin had it right -- ain't nothing like the real thing baby, especially when it comes to work on this scale. The Wall exhibit opens February 25 and runs until May 14.

Better than the Beatles

Pulse ally John McNeil in the New York Times. His Shaggs tribute project, co-led by our own JC Sanford, gets a shout-out:

Mr. McNeil is a kind of trickster figure. How else to explain his newest group, My Band Foot Foot? Its mandate is to play arrangements of songs by the Shaggs, the trio of desperately untalented New Hampshire sisters who made a single album in 1969, “Philosophy of the World,” a milestone of pop folk-art. The band will play its first performance this Saturday at the Cornelia Street Café in Greenwich Village.
