With our BPC gig fast approaching and flush with glad tidings for all New Yorkers, especially on mass transit, what better way to get into the spirit of the holidays and ring in the New Year than by endlessly rewriting my score and copying and recopying parts. I have to say I'm not a proponent of endless rewrites, but on the other hand I do reserve the right to nip and tuck here and there if the spirit moves me. The rehearsal process for this gig has been great (read: brief) and the caliber of the musicians in the Pulse ensemble is, as always, outstanding and inspiring. I've enjoyed working with our lifers as well as the wonderful new additions to the ensemble, and it's been thrilling listening to the writing of my fellow Pulsniks these past few weeks. I always learn a lot about preproduction during rehearsals and I'm thankful for that. There's always something on the parts that could have been more clear, some conducting issue that would make the band more comfortable, some more expedient use of rehearsal time.
I'm looking forward to our "Winter Tour" and hope to meet some of you at the gigs. Actually, you have to admit that "The Eloquent Light" is the perfect name for our Pulse Hanukkah Slam...
