Hey folks. One more interesting gig of mine. It presents my uncoventional trio of two saxophones and trombone called Triocracy. We're playing in the very homey space of Night & Day Restaurant in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
This trio came into existence orginally when I was at school at New England Conservatory and consisted of Allan Chase on Eb saxes (alto, baritone, & sopranino) and Jason Hunter on Bb saxes (tenor & soprano). Since moving to New York in 2000, I have employed the creative services of Andy Laster and Chris Bacas. If you don't know these guys that well, Andy is a veteran of the "downtown" music scene and has played with cats like Julius Hemphill, Andrew Hill, & Dave Douglas. Chris has a rich big band background having performed with Buddy Rich, Artie Shaw, & the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra (he also plays tenor in my big band The Schumacher/Sanford Sound Assembly).
The music we play is a mixture of original compositions and improvisations as well as some “covers” from the jazz universe (Gerry Mulligan, Wayne Shorter, Paul Motian), the classical canon (Henry Purcell, Percy Grainger), and good ol’ popular song (Steven Sondheim, Billy Joel).
Here are the specs:
